Presents: “Autonomous Cars: Navigating The Tech Landscape In Top Gear!

DESCRIPTION
The frenzy around self driving cars notched up in 2016. Over the next five years, the connected car is geared to disrupt the entire automotive ecosystem. The industry will undergo fundamental change as semi-autonomous driving emerges, followed by an eventual shift to full autonomous driving. The rush in innovation and technology advances signal a well poised transformation in the space of the automobile. Everyone from automotive majors to ride-hailing platform companies and smaller solution-providers are trying to make a statement and consolidate their commitment.

Discussions will begin by a short presentation on the current technology trends followed by a discussion of the business insights and the innovation initiatives from the perspective of the panelists and their respective organizations. The discussions will also include insight as to how smaller companies can play a role, in the boom, along with the OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers.

, Associate General Counsel, IP, Intel Corporation
Jill Hubbard Bowman is an Associate General Counsel, Intellectual Property for Intel Corporation. Jill supports Intel’s Internet of Things Group, including the Transportation Solutions Group, and the Programmable Solutions Group (formerly Altera). She also leads Intel’s Technology Licensing Practice Group. Jill focuses on IPR strategy and complex transactions. Prior to joining Intel, Jill worked for major U.S. law firms and litigated complex IP cases in federal and state courts, the ITC, and AAA and ICC arbitrations. Jill is a registered patent attorney. She earned her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School.

, Investment Manager, Hyundai Ventures
Ann Cheng joined Hyundai Ventures in 2014 as an Investment Manager, leading strategic investment opportunities for Hyundai Ventures, the corporate venture capital team for Hyundai Motor Group. She helps source and evaluate Connected Car, energy storage, and intelligent systems technology for automotive application. Before joining Hyundai, Ann was a Senior Associate at 3LP Advisors, an IP strategy and transactions firm. She supported key strategic innovation and technology commercialization projects for clients across a variety of industries and technologies. Ann is admitted before the US Patent Office as a patent agent. She received her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley.

, Managing Director, General Motors (Advanced Technology Silicon Valley Office)
Frankie James is the managing director of GM’s Advanced Technology Office in Silicon Valley, where she is focused on identifying new technologies within the Silicon Valley business ecosystem that may be of benefit to GM. Her particular focus is on human-machine interactions (HMI) and driver experience.

Prior to joining GM, she was the program manager for Human Computer Interaction (HCI) at SAP Research. She has also worked for RIACS (the Research Institute for Advanced Computer Science), and as a NASA contractor, where she developed voice interfaces for semi-autonomous robots.

Dan has has more than twenty-five years leading large-scale environmental, defense, and energy technology integration projects. He has successfully founded six technology companies. Most recently, he was founding Chairman, President, and CEO of Integrated Data Communications (Airbiquity). Under Dan’s Leadership IDC was selected as one of Fortune Magazines “Cool Companies” in 1999 and later recognized as one of the top 25 companies in the Northwest by the Investment Forum. Eagle Harbor Holdings had amassed the second-largest portfolio of patents related to self-driving and autonomous cars, only trailing high tech developer Google in that field.

, Founder and Principal, Intellectual Property Law Firm
Soody is the founder and principal at STLGip, a Silicon Valley boutique technology law firm, counseling domestic and international clients in a wide range of technologies. Soody is a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience in law, technology, and management. Her practice focuses on all aspects of patents and trademark preparation and prosecution, strategic counseling, as well as technology transactions. She is a frequent lecturer at domestic and international forums, instructs courses on IP, licensing, technology transfer, and entrepreneurship; and serves as mentor with several organizations.

Soody was the past Chair of the Licensing Executives Society, Silicon Valley Chapter; and is a Member of the Board of Directors, and Co-Chair of Patent Section with the Palo Alto Area Bar Association.
